In the last two days I have seen a few online permutations of the age-old Deadhead debate:Ī) Is Drums and Space like the coolest part of the show, (at least, y’know, like totally only on a good night, when Mickey and Billy and the audience are one big shamanic heartbeat, and Jerry sneaks in and, then the magic happens… )ī) Time to go pee and/or get a beer and a hot dog, step out for a smoke, call your bookie/dealer/broker/spouse whatever…īTW remember lines at Pay Phones during drums, back before we all had Star Trek in our pockets?ĭo you enjoy Drums and Space? Did you dig it back then? Do you have to be enjoying an enhanced experience to really get it? You know, not everybody likes licorice, but people who like licorice REALLY like licorice…įor some, it is the cosmic musical deep dive peak experience that they were hoping for, and building toward with every spin and twist and arm flail, all show long….Īnd some people just don’t like it. For some reason the Grateful Dead musical exploration traditionally in the mid part of the 2nd set, Drums and Space is one of those things that polarizes opinion….
